PRC Acknowledges Many Great Supporters

Hundreds of volunteers from the Pittsburgh community have contributed thousands of hours in service since 2003 to welcome new refugees to our town. Through their efforts they have built friendships and made Pittsburgh a warm community for refugees.

PRC Volunteers

Some volunteer-driven initiatives include:

  • Welcome potlucks for newly arriving refugees
  • Tutoring weekly in a one-on-one program for children and adults
  • Supporting pregnant women and mothers with newborns
  • Providing crisis support during health, food, and housing emergencies
  • Supporting refugees to become self-sufficient by working with them on financial literacy
  • Inviting refugee children to libraries, playgrounds, museums, and other fun activities
  • Producing a play in collaboration with refugee teens so they could tell their stories
  • Organizing donation drives
    • Clothing & household goods for new arrivals
    • Winter coat and blanket drive
    • Holiday gifts for refugee children
    • Providing supplies for refugee children attending school for the first time
  • Monetary contributions to refugee families
  • Helping refugees navigate the system through advocacy and hands-on support
  • Holding a holiday party with a literacy theme for refugee children
